Last year was a very busy one and we now move forward into the new year 2009.
We would like to make a special acknowledgement in memoriam of Fred and Gladys Rolleston who ran the Shepway Recycling Programme. Fred and Gladys worked so hard to build up this programme and it is a testament to them and the team of volunteers involved that so much has been achieved. We will miss them.
Don and Estelle Kennedy have worked tirelessly to build up the Ashford Recycling Programme. From 1st April 2008 Don and Estelle passed on the funds raised from the Ashford recycling bins to the Paula Carr Trust.
I am delighted to announce that the amount of funds raised from both Shepway and Ashford Recycling was over £47,000. These funds will be used for the benefit of local diabetics.
Our congratulations to Julie Bannell who completed the walk of the Great Wall of China. Julie set out in October to start her walk with 3 friends. They walked 12 kilometres a day, which took 9 hours. They covered 60 kilometres in total. Julie has raised £3,000 for the Paula Carr Trust.
Our thanks to the Lady Mayoress, Leslie Windsor for nominating the Paula Carr Trust as one of her two charities to be supported in her husband’s mayoral year. There were many successful fund-raising events, which included afternoon tea at the Archbishops Palace and a soiree at Whitstable Castle. We are delighted to announce that the Lady Mayoress and her team raised the grand sum of £25,453.30. These monies have been used to purchase a new Mobile Screening Unit fully fitted with its own digital camera to be used within the Kent Retinal Screening Service across Kent.
