We are delighted that the Paediatric Diabetes Service has been acknowledged as an area of importance and this has led to the appointment of three paediatric diabetes nurses and a paediatric dietician. Due to funds raised by the Paula Carr Trust, the Paediatric Diabetes team will be based at the Paula Carr Diabetes Centre, Ashford.
The Trust also funds the running costs of four Glycated Haemoglobin DCA2000 machines across East Kent to help monitor childrens’ blood sugar levels in the Ashford, Shepway and Dover areas. This enables children to have a regular blood test, which assesses how well their diabetes is being looked after.
There is a Parents Support Group, which holds regular meetings at the Paula Carr Diabetes Centre.
