Congratulations to Tenterden teenager Sophie Pearman and her labrador Scooby, who have been selected as Eukanuba Friends for Life 2016 finalists. This heart-warming competition celebrates dogs who have truly earned the title of man’s best friend, through bravery, support or companionship.
Scooby has been specifically trained to detect the differences in Sophie’s breath when her blood sugar levels become erratic – a life-threatening condition caused by Brittle Type 1 Diabetes. When Scooby detects changes in Sophie’s blood sugar levels he is trained to alert Sophie and her parents so they can take action to keep her safe.
Sophie, Scooby and the three other finalists will be invited to Crufts 2016, where the winner will be announced in the main arena at the NEC in Birmingham on Sunday 13th March 2016.
The winner will be chosen by a public vote. If you would like to see Sophie and Scooby scoop this year’s top prize you can vote by texting SCOOBY to 82727 (texts cost £1 plus standard network rates).
A remarkable relationship
See Sophie and Scooby in action in this great film from Crufts.
