New online support site for people with Type 1 diabetes

August 31, 2018

It can be hard for those newly diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes to know which websites to trust, so NHS England has made it easier by collecting all the useful NHS-trusted links in one place on the nhs.uk website. The new pages will help people with Type 1 diabetes to gain the knowledge and confidence to manage their condition. The site has been developed with NHS Digital, Diabetes UK and people living with Type 1 diabetes.

The site provides links to practical help on injecting insulin and checking blood glucose levels – as well as useful advice around living with the condition.

Healthcare professionals are being encouraged to refer newly diagnosed patients, their parents and carers to the site as a one stop shop for Type 1 diabetes support. Click here to see the new pages.

National Citizens Service Social Action Group

August 17, 2018

The Ashford NCS group, as part of their citizens’ awareness, created a documentary about the Paula Carr Diabetes Trust. It was chosen as one of the group has a family member with this chronic condition.

NCS is UCAS recommended and attendees take part to gain skills for their future, increase confidence and develop a network of friends. The production of the film was the final stage of their time together.

The film’s first showing to tutors, family members and two Paula Carr Trustees was held at the diabetes centre. It was a very emotional occasion for everyone as this group has now dispersed.

The group raised over £200 for the Paula Carr Diabetes Trust and many of the group can be seen presenting the money raised to Chairman Gary Fagg. In his thank you speech Gary said that he had been overwhelmed by the generosity and enthusiasm of the group and wished them all well in their future education and careers.
