The best thing you can do when you are diagnosed with diabetes is to take control of the condition yourself. By making changes to your lifestyle you can make a huge difference by reducing the risk of complications later on.
There is lots of information and advice on the NHS website about leading a healthier lifestyle.
- Aim to eat healthily
- Be active
- Cut out smoking
- Don’t forget your medication
- Go for your annual eye screening
- Pay attention to your feet
- Go to all of your diabetes appointments. Make sure you arrange a blood and urine test about two weeks before your appointment to allow time for the results to come back. Download the Paula Carr Diabetes Trust patient record card which you can use to monitor your progress and plan ahead.
